Rocky IV

MORE IMPORTANTLY: I have decided to bring in a very special and age-old training tool: Rocky IV. This movie highlights Rocky's attmept to beat the giant Russian, Ivan Drago, in a bout to avenge national honor and the death of his friend, Apollo. But above all, it shows how to train like you've never trained before--in the middle of Siberia with big logs and rocks. We will be watching the movie next week for inspiration

Here is a description of his training plan: "Rocky, on the other hand, uses only whatever material is available. He climbs rope, does pull-ups on wooden beams, jogs past Russian peasants, chopping wood, running up snowy embankments, and lifting huge rocks; and struggles mightily with a rock-filled sled, dragging it up the side of a mountain. KGB agents also follow Rocky's movements wherever he goes. He is almost ready, but he's missing one thing. When Adrian shows up unexpectedly, to support him emotionally, providing more reason to succeed, Rocky begins to train harder than ever before. His heart is restored, and he is once again at his physical and emotional best."

There are certainly few moments captured on film with the same quality of inspiration as the training sequence so lovingly played out in Rocky IV. Well done Mr. Thum on spreading its power.

However, training is only half the battle. For performance, one must turn to another Sly Stone film- Victory. The story of WWII POWs who play the German National Team in one memorable soccer match in occupied Paris, France. Its a Nazi propaganda tool to show their dominance, and the ref is instructed to make sure the Germans win. I don't want to spoil the action, but some players willing break their own bones, face certain death, abort an escape plan, go to solitary, and persevere in a game they can not win. Because hey, "we CAN win this game." Oh, and it stars Pele. What else do you need?

everyone knows that that Russian dude should have beat rocky. i mean, he had all the technology. rocky just had a hill with some snow on it, and an old barn. my advice would be to get some Russians, quick

Once again, we are reminded how the love of a woman is truly the best thing that can happen to a guy in his quest for physical domination. I mean, seriously, if Rocky doesn't spell that out, nothing does. Except maybe The Mighty Ducks. Screw the rocks and bricks, find and woo some jocky chicks.
